If the shipyard has been around for 26 years, it was taken over in January 1998 by José Vélazquez. Based in Hourtin, Yachting Médoc has had a branch in Verdon sur Mer since its inception. Formerly at Port Bloc, this branch naturally moved to Port Médoc at its creation. When José Vélazquez arrived, the company then had four people, including three mechanics and a bookkeeping secretary. Having been in the nautical field for over 10 years (he worked for Sports Services in the sale of sliding equipment and Célébrity boats), José feels the potential of this company. He then develops the commercial branch of the shipyard, which had been underutilized, and quickly sees his efforts rewarded. Shortly after his arrival, Yachting Médoc's results begin to climb. José wisely retains the foundation of the company and especially the brands it worked with before, such as Yamaha. Then came Rio for over 10 years, followed by Capelli, and he now collaborates closely with his neighbor, the boatyard B2 Marine. Additionally, Yachting Médoc is also a dealer for the brands Guy Marine, Parker, and Satellite trailers, a catalog that allows him to meet most of the demands of recreational boaters. At the same time, the dealership has significantly developed the wintering part, as with 15,000 m2 of land, it offers a prime location, just 500 meters from Lake Hourtin and its 500-berth port. The same advantage applies to the Port Médoc branch on the Gironde estuary, which also offers a harbor solution and the possibility for boaters to quickly reach Royan and its activities or head out into the Atlantic Ocean. Furthermore, other renowned navigation basins such as Lacanau or the Arcachon basin are not very far away, confirming Yachting Médoc's strategic position. To develop its clientele, José and his team do not hesitate to get involved by being present at numerous fairs such as the one in Arcachon in April, Le Verdon S/ Mer in June, La Rochelle in September, and Paris in December. A remarkable dynamism that means that in 2013, the company now counts 11 people, including four mechanics, a plater, an assembler, a store manager, a salesperson, a bookkeeping secretary, and its manager José. Yachting Médoc has complete equipment starting with its workshop truck that travels throughout the department, knowing that if its mechanics are certified by Yamaha and Mercury, they are also capable of intervening on all kinds of mechanics. A recognized professionalism that contributes to retaining an ever-growing clientele that also appreciates the family atmosphere of the company and its sustainability, as José has surrounded himself with his wife, brother, and son to keep the flame alive for a long time to come.
